An engineering vision

In January 2022 I was asked to write up my "engineering vision" as part of a job interview process.

I did not get the job1, but I think the document (slightly edited) might be useful for me to reference it, and maybe for other people to read.

You can find it here.2

  1. And I did not get paid for this, so the right to use the document belongs to me.

  2. I wrote the original document in markdown. Embedding it here messes with the header structure so much that putting it into this article directly looked and felt wrong to me, so: yes, one more click.

finicky - managing multiple browsers, task by task

I like Safari on the Mac.

But, at the same time, I use some Google services, which feel shaky and broken on Safari, and have a reduced feature set when running on my browser of choice 1.

So, I have to install Chrome, but want to open only very specific links on that browser.

Enter finicky, a powerful, power-user oriented way to choose the default browser based on the URL being opened.

Beyond the basics, finicky adds some nice tricks, like choosing Chrome profiles based on URL, too. Enough to play around and get down the rabbit hole, if you like.

May

May 2022 changes a lot for me. I started a new job at jobvalley, and I am super exited about the new job and role, getting to code more is exiting!

That being said, I will miss the people at my old employer, BetterDoc, a lot. I am very proud of what we have started, and I feel sorry for not being able to finish it up, but at the same time: you are never finished with software, right?

I will work a reduced number of weekly hours in May, allowing me a less stressful start.
